----------------------

At age 5 Anthony got his first pair of drum sticks and would beat on anything from pots and pans to tables and chairs at restaurants. He would frequent his Dad and Mom’s music collection ranging from Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Steve Miller Band, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Weather Report and Steely Dan to Bonnie Raitt and Emmy Lou Harris.  He would air drum or play on the couch and pretend he was the drummer in these bands.

Anthony’s dreams of having his own drum set finally came true when his Dad bought him his first drum set for his 10th birthday. Anthony became obsessed and played everyday. He started studying privately with his first drum teacher, Pat McGrath.com

This is when Anthony discovered bands like Led Zeppelin, Neil Young and The Who and really wanted to be a rock drummer.

Anthony stuck to lessons and joined the middle school jazz band even though he was still in grade school. In the first live show he played, he was featured on the song “Wipe Out’’ a tribute to surfers. This is ironic because Anthony’s favorite past time is surfing.

By age 12 Anthony was in his own rock band, Last Chance, with 20 year olds for the other members of the band. They would play clubs like The Roxy, The Whisky and The Key Club on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. Anthony’s Dad would drive him to the gigs and sit with him when he played because the shows were usually 21 and over.

Anthony continued to play in the middle school band as well. At age 15, Anthony quit the school band because the members of the jazz band were required to be in marching band as well. At that age, Anthony couldn’t conform to the rigid requirements of marching band.  Later Anthony found a new appreciation for that kind of drumming when he played marching drums with Gwen Stefani on stage and TV in her song “Hollaback Girl”.

After quitting the school band and taking a break from private lessons, Anthony formed his own rock band called Breed 2000 with 20 year olds once again. Breed 2000 recorded 3 professional albums that Anthony helped produce.  They sold out clubs from The Glass House in Pomona to The Whisky in Hollywood. The band was very popular in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and Inland Empire areas. Anthony was the band’s booking agent which gave him experience with some harsh realities of the music business.  At age 15 to 18, Anthony made deals for the band with what seemed to him to be crooked club promoters for The Roxy and Whisky in Hollywood. It is his opinion that these clubs exploit young bands. Anthony recalls playing the Roxy at 16 and the band refusing to stop when the club tried to cut their set short.  The promoter from M-Productions claimed Anthony “would never play Hollywood again” because of this.  The Last we heard M-Productions is out of business and the club promoter works across the street at the Shell gas station.

When Anthony graduated high school he met his hero Alan Waddington, the rhythm director at Citrus College. Anthony decided to attend Citrus College in Glendora, California. He began to realize he had much to learn to become a good drummer and a musician.

In college, Anthony was introduced to new musical styles such as Jazz, Reggae, and Latin. He really got into Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Tito Puente, Steel Pulse, Brian Blade, and Sammy Nestico.

When Anthony started college he did not know how to read music very well; he played by ear. He was placed in the lowest bands in college and began the long journey to get to the top of his class.

He started studying with Alan Waddington and Mike Packer, learning how to read music and play jazz and Latin music. He gave up Breed 2000 and focused solely on school. He began to play drums for 12 to 14 hours a day. He continued this for the next 4 years and became one of the lead drummers at Citrus College. He recorded and toured in their pop band, big band, small jazz band and orchestra. He learned how to sight read music and toured with the bands to Japan and Hawaii 4 consecutive years. He maintained a grade point average of 4.0 that eventually earned him a full scholarship to Azusa Pacific University. He also began to work outside of school playing music professionally.

At Citrus College, Anthony was privileged to record with the great jazz composer Sammy Nestico and study with the great drummer Greg Bissonet. Anthony also met John Avila (producer and bass player for Oingo Boingo), Ray Woodbury (major contact to the touring music business) and Gwen Stefani through Alan Waddington.

After 1 year at Azusa Pacific University Anthony left on good terms to pursue his professional music career.

Today he has toured, recorded and performed with living legends.

Anthony gives the credit to all of the tremendous support he received while going through school.

“I would never be here if it were not for my tremendous, loving supportive family.  My mother Cathy LoGerfo and father Tony LoGerfo: I love you. Thanks to all my great teachers: Alan Waddington, Pat McGrath, Mike Packer, Bob Slack, William Hoehne, Greg Bissonet, John Avila, Marty Winer, Ray Woodbury, Azusa Pacific University and Citrus College. “I had the best teachers in the world throughout my career and am still learning something new everyday!”
